This is called a "Racing Pigeon" clock. It has an 8 day high quality time only movement. It moves a tape on the inside that is stamped each time a pigeon comes in , it records the time and the leg band on the pigeon is placed inside the box as it is indexed for the next pigeon. These were used quite extensively years ago but have been replaced by a more modern computerized version that does the same thing.
